General Information
The Friends is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that supports the library by providing supplemental funding for a wide range of programs, along with hosting Café au Libris author events, funding the Live at the Library concert series, and holding book sales at the Athens-Clarke Library. The Friends also operate the Athens Library Store, a shop within the Athens-Clarke County Library that sells secondhand and vintage books along with book-themed gifts and work from local artists, with all proceeds benefiting the library. The store’s current summer hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 10 am. to 3 pm.
The Friends Board consists of 21 members, with a 7-member cohort rotating off the board each year. The term of service is 3 years. New members are elected at the annual May meeting (vacancies are filled throughout the year as needed). The Board meets monthly on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm.
