How does Summer Reading work?
You can read anything this summer, and earn prizes just for reading!

Anything? What counts?
All reading counts! Books, magazines, comics, audiobooks, graphic novels, nonfiction, e-
books… all reading is great for summer reading!

How do I get started?
Just come by the library and pick up your reading log. Write down all of the books you read, or,
mark down every 30 minutes you spend reading, if you’re reading longer chapter books. You’ll
earn a prize for every 10 books or every 5 hours you spend reading. All reading counts!

What happens if I read a lot?
If you fill up your reading log with 50 books or 25 hours, you’ll get a free book and a bookbag to
keep! You can complete the summer reading program twice to get double prizes!

Madison County Library

Summer Reading at the Madison County Library is tracked by the number of hours or the number of books read. Children and Teens can select the type of log that best fits their reading style. Adults can also participate in the SRP by picking up a BINGO sheet.

Prizes are awarded for every 10 hours or 10 books read. Come to the front desk to pick up your log and when you are ready to collect your prizes. For certain reading goals (including the BINGO sheet) you will be entered into a drawing for raffle prizes that will be drawn at the end of the SRP. You can earn bonus raffle prize entries by attending library programs or participating in certain library activities. See your reading log for more info. Oconee County Library

Children’s

How does the Oconee County Library’s Summer Reading Program work for Children?
Visit the library any day on or after June 1 to sign up for summer reading! Get a free log, and stickers to track your reading.

How do I track my reading?
All reading counts and being read to by someone else counts! Children complete their log when they have put 50 stickers in their logs. 1 sticker = 1 picture book or 30 minutes, or 1 chapter of a chapter book. After 10 stickers are added to the log, children can bring their log in for a prize and they can put a bee on our summer reading bulletin board with their name on it. For each additional 10 stickers they get a new prize and can move their bee towards the finish line. At 50 stickers (a completed sheet) children get a book to keep!

Can I do the log a second time?
If you fill up your reading log with 50 stickers, you’ll get a free book to keep! You can complete the summer reading program again but prizes are only awarded at a full sheet (free book) for subsequent logs turned in.

What happens every ten stickers?

  • 10 Stickers on the log and you get a fun sticker and your name on a bee on our bulletin board.
  • 20 Stickers on the log and you get a 3D Insect Puzzle or a Maze and you move your bee.
  • 30 Stickers on the log and you get a lollipop or a temporary tattoo and you move your bee.
  • 40 Stickers on the log and you get a pull back car and you move your bee.
  • 50 Stickers on the log and you get a free book to keep and you move your bee!

Teens

We will have scratch off tickets at the circulation desk for staff to give teens. They get 1 ticket for every 3 books they check out at a time. Teens are supposed to remind you to give them a ticket at the time of checkout.

Teens will write their contact info on the back of the ticket and then scratch them off to reveal their prize. When they scratch off the ticket, they will either get a “win” or a “try again.”

If they get a WIN, they can pick out one prize from the teen prize box we will have at the circulation desk.

All tickets are kept for a drawing for a chance to win bigger prizes at the end of summer.

Oglethorpe County Library

Children’s

How does the Oglethorpe Summer Reading Program work for Children?
Visit the library any day on or after June 1 to sign up for summer reading! Get a free book, log, and stickers to track your reading. Complete your log to win a second book, a book light (or other prize), and a brick block keychain!

How do I track my reading?
All reading counts! Children complete their log when they have put 50 stickers in their logs. 1 sticker = 1 book or 20 minutes. And being read to by another person counts! As do picture books. And if you read to three children at once for 20 minutes? Then they EACH get a sticker! Read to a hundred children at once? A hundred children get a sticker!

What happens if I read a lot?
If you fill up your reading log with 50 books or 50 twenty minute reading sessions, you’ll get a free book to keep, booklight (or other prize) and a brick block keychain! You can complete the summer reading program twice if you like! Then – twice the prizes!

What happens every ten stickers?
Bring your log back to the library and you’ll get a cup of LEGOs to use to help us build a massive LEGO structure in the library. This thing could get crazy!

DINOSAUR!!! What’s this I hear about the children’s reading log GRAND PRIZE?
ROWR! Complete your children’s Oglethorpe County Library reading log and return it to the library for a chance to win the grand prize of a 693 piece Jurassic Park Lego set. We’ll draw and contact our winner on August 7th – be sure to turn in your log before then! Reading is its own reward, but having a T-Rex for motivation doesn’t hurt!

Are there other prizes just for visiting the library?
Absolutely! Children get a prize from the ‘treasure chest’ every time they visit the library during June and July! And we have weekly Children, Teen, and Adult ‘gift bags of prizes’ – you can enter every time you check out books (one entry per day).

At the Oglethorpe Library, do I get a prize for getting a prize?
Nearly. Check back in 2025 for expanded prize options. 😉

Teen

How does the Oglethorpe Summer Reading Program work for teens?
Any teen who signs up for summer reading gets a free book to keep, a library ‘map’ to find your way to a reading adventure, and a prize.
