Have you ever been curious about the history of Madison County and your family’s place in it? The library is where you should start! Whether you’re a new arrival or lifelong resident, (re)discover what makes our community great.
At the Madison County Library, browse our local collection in the Heritage of Genealogy Room, located behind the Computer Lab, where you’ll find yearbooks, cemetery records, and other archives. Our staff at the library can help you locate these records and give you a brief review of how to find the information you’re looking for. You can make copies of most materials for $0.15 per page for black & white copies.
But that’s not all! The library provides all of our patrons access to online historical records and other genealogical resources, many of which can be accessed from home with your library card number.
Georgia Historic Newspapers, for example, is a free resource from the Digital Library of Georgia whose mission is to provide online, searchable archives of historic local newspapers. Visit the Georgia Historic Newspapers website to find copies of The Madison County Journal 그리고 The Danielsville Monitor, among tons of other newspapers from around the state.
The library also provides access to Ancestry.com Library Edition. While this resource can only be accessed from within our library building, you can find thousands of historical records such as former Census records, yearbook photos, and more and print them out to keep for your records at home.
Whether you’re a local history connoisseur or just getting started, the library has lots to offer you. Learn more about our local history offerings on our Services page. Find out more about our online services on the Resources page.
