Film Screening and Discussion: The U.S. and the Holocaust

Join us for this special screening of selecting from The U.S. and the Holocaust. The three-part documentary, directed and produced by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick and Sarah Botstein, explores America’s response to one of the greatest humanitarian crises of the twentieth century. Inspired in part by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Americans and the Holocaust exhibition and supported by its historical resources, the film examines the rise of Hitler and Nazism in Germany in the context of global antisemitism and racism, the eugenics movement, and discriminatory race laws in the American south.

The program is Tuesday, April 18, at 7 p.m. in the Appleton Auditorium. A panel discussion will follow the 45-minute screening. Moderated by retired Athens-Clarke County librarian Tammy Gerson, the panel will reflect on selections of the documentary and offer their insight and personal experience. Panel members are:
