Art, Science & Adventure! Oh, My! Programs to Brighten Rainy Days

legosThe showers of Spring are upon us, but the Bogart Library has programs guaranteed to brighten any rainy day this month.  Families with children ages four and up, drop into the Library’s Create Space from 5:00 – 5:30 pm on the third and fifth Wednesdays for Sketchbook Club, a virtual workshop for beginners, with instruction provided by the National Gallery of Art.  Materials and smiles provided!

More smiles are in store for Saturday visitors with MARTMatics, a STEAM-filled, hands-on fun program that explores the connections between MATH and ART.  Join Ms. Blaine, our resident Fun Math Wizard, at 11 am, Saturday, March 18th, for this STEAM Saturday event. All ages are welcome but children under the age of 6 will need strong adult support. STEAM Saturdays occur on the third Saturday of each month.

Create something beautiful to welcome Spring rainbows with Kathryn’s Crafting @ Midday on Tuesday, March 21st at 1 pm. Quilling is the beautiful art of rolling and shaping paper.  Adults and older teens, join Kathryn to learn all about it and come out with a customized monogram.  Kathryn, a professional fiber artist, will also host Help! I YARNED Friday, March 17th at 1 pm and TeenCrafter: Friendship Bracelets at 2 pm, Saturday, March 25h.  Help! I YARNED is a supportive, fun group for adults, older tween homeschoolers and teens of all skill levels. TeenCrafter is a new program, geared for ages 13-18.  TeenCrafter will alternate with TeenArtist, which meets 6-7:30 pm on the first Thursday evening of each month, with the exception of May and August.

Alice Mistlethwaite likes to write about fantastic adventures, but she doesn’t have any herself until she travels to a boarding school in the wilds of Scotland and her own story begins …” Rainy days may keep tween adventurers inside, but Mr. Paul and the Chapter Chat Book Club have a treasure of a title for your reading pleasure.  Tweens, ages 8-12, join us at 4;30 pm, March 23rd,  for lively discussions, snacks, activities and ORIENTEERING based on this month’s choice, A Talent for Trouble by Natasha Farrant.  Chapter Chat meets on the fourth Thursday of each month, with the exception of May and August.

And don’t forget Wonderful Wednesdays at the Bogart Library! Lego Club, a hands-on drop-in program for young engineers, will meet March 8th and 15th from 3:30-5 pm.  On Wednesday STEAMsdays , March 22nd and 29th, young architects and artists will build with a variety of boxes and create colorful collages, based on popular children’s titles, Boxitects, by Kim Smith and Pocket Full of Colors: The Magical World of Mary Blair, Disney Artist Extraordinaire by Amy Guglielmo and Jacqueline Tourville. Rainy days may prevent outside activities, but there is no brighter place to be than the Bogart Library. Drop in to brighten your day soon!
