It’s summer reading time! Oglethorpe County Library offers creative, fun, and free ways to build a love for reading for all ages and abilities. This year’s theme is All Together Now, and we will offer a variety of in-person traditions such as puppet shows, storytimes, and more, as well as prizes for meeting reading goals, in-person and online activities, and even opportunities to explore Georgia. Find your age group below to learn more about how it works!

Children’s Summer Reading (Birth to age 12)

Children will pick up a Summer Reading Log at the library with a set of stickers. Each sticker counts for either finishing a picturebook or reading for 20 minutes of a chapter book. Fill out the log and you’ll get a prize at the end of the summer! Plus, the first 200 children registered will receive a free book courtesy of the أصدقاء مكتبة مقاطعة أوجليثورب و Books for Keeps.

Children will also get prizes from a prize chest each time they visit the library, whether they’re here for one of our fun summer events or just to stay out of the sun!

Teen Summer Reading (Ages 12 to 18)

Teens will pick up a Summer Reading Bingo Sheet at the library. Each bingo sheet has a set of activities as well as reading suggestions to do throughout the summer. Fill out a bingo line and return the log to be entered into a prize drawing, or go the extra mile and fill out the entire bingo sheet to get a prize at the end of the summer!

Adult Summer Reading (Ages 18 and up)

Adults can pick up a Summer Library Log at the library. The log has ten blanks, which can be filled in by either: 1. Reading or listening to a book; 2. Attending any ARLS library event; 3. Using an online database or resource; or, 4. Checking out something from the library that isn’t a book. Return the completed log to the library to enter into a drawing to win a Georgia State ParkPass, courtesy of the Friends of the Oglethorpe County Library!

Other Ways to Read This Summer

The library offers lots of ways to get your summer reading done, even if you can’t visit us in person.

  • Our e-Book collections on Libby, eRead Kids, and Tumblebooks are great for reading while you’re away on vacation.
  • The Beanstack app helps you track your reading throughout the year, and is a great way to encourage kids to get their 20 minutes of reading in each day!
  • The Georgia Library Service for the blind and print disabled is offering their first Summer Reading Challenge as well!
