3rd Annual Carnegie Color Crawl

3rd Annual Carnegie Color Crawl. Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 12PM. Features a running white silhouette against a backsplash of color. Please help sponsor The Friends of the Lavonia-Carnegie Library’s 3rd Annual Carnegie Color Crawl on Saturday, April 12, 2025. All proceeds collected for our Color Crawl will be split 50/50 between the Friends of the Lavonia Library and the charity CDH Stars and Angels. April is CDH Awareness month, and we want to help raise funds for families with babies born with CDH, or Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. CDH is a birth defect in which the diaphragm—the muscle that separates the abdomen from the chest—does not develop completely. This causes a hole where abdominal organs can migrate into the chest. When that happens, it doesn’t leave enough space for the lungs to develop normally, and this can make it difficult or even impossible for babies born with CDH to breathe. Of the babies born with this defect, only around 50% survive their first day of life. Of those 50%, several won’t make it to adulthood.

CDH Stars and Angels provides multiple resources for CDH families. They provide care packages for every part of the journey, which include a General NICU package, an “In Memory Of” care package, a “Welcome Home Warrior” package, and a “CDH Clinic Day” package. They also help families cover CDH-related costs such as travel expenses, burial expenses, and medical expenses.
