Reflecting, Sharing, Learning

Watch an enchanting interview with Charlotte Thomas Marshall, preeminent Athens historian and author of Oconee Hill Cemetery of Athens Georgia and Historic Houses of Athens, among others. She most recently edited The Tangible Past in Athens Georgia, a collection of essays by thirteen writers, primarily about Athens in the 19th Century. She is interviewed here in the Athens-Clarke County Library Quiet Gallery by retired ACCL Heritage Room librarian Laura Carter. Charlotte reminisces about her arrival in Athens, how she got into learning family histories, and tells a few anecdotes about the families who have made Athens their home.

Dressing Up: A Gimlet-Eyed Look at Fashion from a Century Ago is the second in our series Dust Collectors. Ivan Ingermann gave a great talk about fashions from the 1900s through the 1920s, with special attention to the styles worn in Downton Abbey. You'll also get a brief look at an exhibition from the collections of Beverly Bourgeois (Ritzy Rags) and Karen Fisher (Antiques & Jewels), but this extraordinary exhibit is still on display in the Heritage Room and the Quiet Gallery at the Athens-Clarke County Library through March 24, 2015.
