For the safety of our patrons and with a continued effort to “flatten the curve," all Athens Regional Library System branches in Athens-Clarke, Franklin, Madison, Oconee and Oglethorpe counties will remain closed until such time that it is deemed safe to reopen to the public. Library staff remain on the job  serving our communities virtually.  Please feel free to contact us at http://athenslibrary.org/homepage/regional-information/contact-us if you have any questions regarding library service during this time. We will update the community as more information becomes available.

African American Family Scan Day

image of genealogySaturday, August 26, 2017

Help preserve the story of the African American experience by bringing your family's historical documents (photos, letters, family Bibles, recipes, etc.) to be digitally scanned and preserved!
This initiative is part of the National Endowment for Humanities' Common Heritage Grant. The goal of the grant is to preserve African American families' histories, which are often underdocumented. By helping families protect and preserve their heirloom documents, we hope to ensure that everyone's story is remembered. Registration for appointment times required. To register go to the online Athens-Clarke County Library Adult Calendar or call 706-769-3950. All programs are free and open to the public.
