Lavonia Carnegie Book Club No. 1

Monday, March 24, 2020

6:00 pm

Our Book Club has been reading "Educated: A Memoir" by Tara Westover. Come join in on the conversation!

Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University. Only then would she wonder if she’d traveled too far, if there was still a way home.

For April, we will be reading "Secrets of a Charmed Life" by Susan Meissner.

Two authors will make presentations at the Friends of the Lavonia Library's 'Meet the Authors' program March 9 at 6 p.m. at the Lavonia Community Center; Lei Robison and Michael Riggan. Along with these two presenters, we will have three published authors from the Bowers House Writer's Guild, Carolyn Bond, Lorinda Martin and Pamela Baker.

Refreshments will be served, and there will be a chance to mingle with the authors after the presentations.
