The East Athens Library Resource Center is a library housed on the second floor of the East Athens Community Center on McKinley Drive in Athens. This position is responsible for the day to day operations of the small library resource center, working with patrons of all ages. This includes, but is not limited to, providing a structured learning environment for children after school as well as during summer camp.  The Resource Center Manager also offers outreach programming to the local community, an aspect of the job which may increase throughout the year. This position reports to the Assistant Director for Regional Services.

Minimum Training and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent is required, with college and library experience preferred.  At least one year experience working with the public is required. Successful experience working with children is strongly preferred. Or, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following are normal, but not exclusive or all-inclusive, expectations for this job.  Other duties of a similar nature or level may be required as assigned and job assignments may change in the future.

  • Manages daily Library Resource Center operations, including the following: opening and closing the library; basic facility maintenance; organizing and re-shelving materials; accepting fees and fines; routing holds, loans, and information; materials processing; performing basic office duties including answering telephones; keeping Assistant Director informed on Center activities.
  • Maintains and circulates Library Resource Center materials collection.
  • Plans and delivers programming for library patrons and community.
  • Provides assistance and training to patrons of all ages with the library’s online catalog.
  • Troubleshoots personal computers, printers, scanners, and fax equipment and assists patrons with computer use.
  • Handles all problems with patrons and expedites satisfactory resolutions.
  • Prepares and submits required statistical reports on library use and program attendance.
  • Maintains and submits required financial reports on the fines, fees, and gifts collected at the Center.
  • Publicizes and promotes library services in the community, according to established guidelines.
  • Upholds all library policies, including the Patron Responsibilities and Conduct statement; monitors and responds to safety and security of library patrons and campus; reports situations according to outlined procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability and desire for working with children.
  • Skill in public speaking and program presentation techniques appropriate to the targeted audiences.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate successfully with patrons, staff, volunteers, and diverse groups of patrons, especially children. 
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and make independent and critical decisions using established procedures and practices.
  • Personal computer proficiency and the ability to use, understand, and assist patrons with various computer applications. 
  • Ability to maintain simple records and make verbal and written reports.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to plan and prioritize assignments and activities.
  • Knowledge of all normal and emergency building procedures.
  • Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.
  • Aptitude for creative projects such displays, crafts, decorations, and publicity.
  • Physical demand requirements are at levels of Medium Work.
