Real, fake or biased? How to be a discerning news consumer

Image of a laptop with fake news on the screen.

Thursday, March 2, 2017, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Multipurpose Room B

When you see an alarming story on social media – what do you do? Take it at face value, freak out, and immediately share it? How do you take a few moments and double check it for truthfulness? This workshop will both emphasize the library as a resource for helping navigate the news, and empower media consumers in understanding how the news and bias work.

Led by Mary Jessica Hammes, a local journalist with 20 years of experience in writing, editing, and teaching, this program will help shed light on the topic of "fake news."
