What happens when you give a baby a cookie? Find out at our 20-30 minute lapsit storytime followed by open play on Saturday, June 1st, at 11:00 am. Enjoy Laura Numeroff’s ‘The Best Mouse Cookie’, fingerplays, cookie songs and eating cookies with your babies. For infants birth to 18 months and their caregiver in the storyroom.

When Duncan opens his box of crayons, he finds they have all written him letters with the same message, “I quit!” Come hear this colorful tale of crayon complaints, read by our special guest, the State Superintendent! Then, enjoy rhymes, songs, and crafts on Monday, June 3rd, at 1:30 pm! For children ages 4-11 and their caregiver in the storyroom.

 Let’s “Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!” as we blast off into space with Ms. Frizzle and the Magic School Bus! Listen to classic Magic School Bus books, enjoy space-themed experiments and activities, and make crafts to go on Tuesday, June 4th, at 2:30 pm. For children ages 6-11 and their caregiver in Multipurpose Rooms A&B.

 You’ve been chosen for a mission that has never been attempted before – a journey to the center of a black hole! In this Choose Your Own Adventure style program, our audience will decide our fate together each step of the way. Discover fascinating facts about black holes with our special guest astronomer Steve Knight. Join us on Thursday, June 6th, at 10:30 am to learn about gravity by making your own black hole craft. For children ages 5-8 and their caregiver in the storyroom.

 Chapter readers are invited to join us for Natalie Lloyd’s Georgia Book Award Winner A Snicker of Magic on Thursday, June 6th, at 4:00 pm. Games and snacks provided. Participation is limited to 10 children. Please call the Children’s Desk to register and to put your book on hold. For children ages 8-11 in the storyroom.

 Enjoy a Saturday morning of take home craft-activities that are all about planets, stars, astronauts and all things outer space on Saturday, June 8th, at 11:00 am! For children ages 4-11 and their caregiver in the storyroom. 

 bearsie bear It was cold outside and Bearsie Bear was just getting ready for bed when Moosie Moose and a host of other winter animals try to sleep over for the night. Hilarity ensues in this silly puppet show full of animal antics, based on the book by Bernard Waber. Join us Tuesday, June 11th, at 2:30 pm for our Bearsie Bear and the Surprise Sleepover Party puppet show! For children of all ages and their caregiver in the Appleton Auditorium.

Head to Athens Library on Saturday, May 18th from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. The first 500 children to sign up for our Summer Reading Program will receive a free Universe of Stories tote bag.

What do bats do at night? Aerobatics! Comecreatures at night graphic hear stories and learn about what bats and other nocturnal creatures REALLY do at night, with a special presentation from local experts at Sandy Creek Nature Center on Tuesday, May 21, at 2:30 pm! Spend a magical day of family fun at the Athens-Clarke County Library as we share stories, fairy house building, crafts, face painting, family folk dancing, and more at our 4th Annual Fairy & Elf Festival: Into the Woods! on Saturday, April 13th, 2019 1:00-4:00 pm. Dress up as your favorite fairytale character, all magical creatures are welcome. For ages 3-11 and their caregivers. In the Children’s Area. Begin the day at 1:00 pm with Fairy Family Folk Dancing, then listen to Magical Stories from the Wood at 2:00 pm with master storyteller Jackie Elsner. The Fairy Village opens at 2:30 pm for crafts, activities and fairy house building. Please check the children’s brochure for more details.

Check out his groovy vehicle, meet the caterpillar himself, make colored-paper collage art, and experience his classic story on Tuesday, April 23, at 10:30 am. This event is proudly co-hosted by the ACC Library and Avid Bookshop. Books will be available for sale.

Join us for our first annual Holi Indian Cultural Celebration with New York Times bestselling author Surishtha Seghal (Festival of Colors, Wheels on the Tuk Tuk, A Bucket of Blessings) on Saturday, March 16th at 11:00 am. Enjoy Indian food, dance, music and the throwing of traditional colored powders to celebrate spring and the triumph of good over evil. Be sure to wear white clothing. Co-hosted by IAGA (Indian Association of Greater Athens). Books will be available for purchase.

Oliver’s best friends are puppets, but there are some things puppets can’t do. Perhaps it’s time to make some new friends, or is it? Discover this fun story of friendship, puppets and imagination, then make a puppet for your very own puppet show on Thursday, March 7th at 3:30 pm.

Multi-award-winning author Mac Barnett (Extra Yarn, Sam and Dave Dig a Hole, Noisy Night) is bringing us Circle, the final book in his and Jon Klassen’s brilliant shapes trilogy. This is the story of Circle and how she has to rescue her friend Triangle when he breaks a rule she has made. This special event is cosponsored by Avid Bookshop and the ACC Library on Saturday, March 9 th at 11:00 am. Books will be available for purchase during the event.
