Friends of Athens-Clarke County Library present author Jonathan Putnam.

author portraitATHENS, Ga. — The Friends of the Athens-Clarke County Library and Avid Bookshop present an evening with writer and attorney Jonathan F. Putnam, author of the Lincoln and Speed mystery series, on Wednesday, July 10 at 6:00 p.m. A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, Putnam is a nationally renowned trial lawyer and recognized Lincoln scholar. He will visit the Athens-Clarke County Library to speak about A House Divided, the fourth book in his series which will be released on July 9.

A House Divided reimagines one of the greatest unsolved murder mysteries from Abraham Lincoln’s real-life trial cases. In the winter of 1840, a sensational disappearance rocks Springfield, Ill., as headlines announce a local man has accused his two brothers of murder. Not one to pass up an opportunity, the young attorney Abraham Lincoln takes up the case of the
accused with the help of his best friend Joshua Speed to search for evidence of innocence. Lincoln and Speed find their friendship at risk as they both vie for the hand of a beautiful new arrival in town – an ambitious, outspoken young woman named Mary Todd. At the same time, a mysterious foreign banker arrives in town, promising a trunk full of gold coins to solve the state’s economic woes. Can Lincoln and Speed put aside their differences to work together for justice
once more? Other books in the series include Final Resting Place (2018), Perish from the Earth (2017) and These Honored Dead (2016). Putnam’s books have been optioned for the screen, and Variety magazine has reported that a major television series is in the works.
The event is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase and signing. For more information, call the library at (706) 613-3650. The Athens-Clarke County Library is located at 2025 Baxter Street, Athens.
